When presenting this project, I was immediately accused of monumentality, when none was called for. Obviously, I had no defense. Part of my problem, which can be seen in the site plan, was in the difficulty I had putting an end to my exuberance: sculptural structures, coupled with the enormous water element, carried the project quite a ways over the top. My experiment in forming chicken wire into site contours (not shown) resulted in critical comments ranging from difficult to cheeky. It’s unlikely I would make the same choice again. Regardless, the drawings were a pleasure to ink.
