The pd.o Guide To Food
We aren't cooks here at the pd.o. We just play some in cyberspace. As such, this guide could well be titled Bill and Ted's Culinary Adventures. Still, we need a place to write stuff down, and where better to keep our respective recipe shoeboxes than here?
Equipment
You've seen the camping list. You've seen the other list. Here's the kitchen list—things you must have before inviting us over to cook for you.
- A good Chef's knife, i.e. Henkel with the two dudes. (Okay, I'll admit. I have several—one of them a cheaper henkel-with-the-one-dude knife, and it seems to work just fine. Bottom line: buy the best chef's knife you can afford.)
- Wok. Any old beater from chinatown if you have a gas stove. I don't (have a gas stove), so I use an electric wok myself.
- Pasta Maker - the little steel rolling-pin one, not one of those stupid automatic things. This is my new favorite thing.
- Wooden Spoons - lots of them
- Cutting Boards - Plastic ones that fit into the dishwasher are great. Also handy are (reusable) plastic cutting sheets - one for each of fish, meat, poultry, and veggie/dairy.
- Set of measuring cups and spoons.
- Sturdy baking sheet - Some people only use these for cookies. I use them for just about everything that goes into the oven.
