Blocking Web Ads

  1. First, wander over to @Man's page describing how to block web ads under pretty much any operating system. It works by putting advertisers' servers' domain names in your hosts file, but with the loopback address as their IP. Want a laugh? Check out Textism's hilarious page linking to @Man's.
  2. Grab a cookie to opt out of DoubleClick's tracking procedures.
  3. Be free of X10's pop-unders until 2015 by using this helpful hack to which we are indebted to the mighty zeldman.com. Never mind that their page says 30 days. The hack is in specifying the day count in the URL passed to their CGI.
